Thank you to Alex Elle for the title of today’s blog post.

I’m not gonna lie to y’all. 2018 was a rough year. ROUGH. Really it all started in 2017 and one day I’ll share more about what’s been going on in detail, but today I just want to focus on the lessons 2018 taught me.

  1. When you need to take a step back, take a step back. Nothing is worth compromising your mental health.

  2. Sometimes your friends don’t realize all you’re going through. It’s okay to reach out to them when you need them.

  3. Speak what you want and TRULY believe it will come to you.

  4. No matter how far you drift from God, you’re never too far gone to turn around and go back to Him.

  5. You have to allow people to be there for you.

  6. Clearing your cache and cookies will delete ALL your bookmarked pages in your internet browser. And you will be pissed.

  7. Celebrate your birthday in some way EVERY year, even if you don’t feel like it.

  8. If you don’t believe in yourself, you can’t expect anyone else to. Your success begins with your belief in yourself.

  9. It’s easy to think of all the things you DON’T have, but it’s far more productive to focus on all the things you DO have.

  10. Speaking of all the things you do have, be grateful for them. And express that gratefulness outwardly on a regular basis.

  11. Be very aware of where you’re investing your energy. If you’re investing it into a situation that is in no way replenishing it, end that situation asap.

  12. Inspiring others is still my main motivation, and I’m happy about that.

  13. It is possible to read more than one book at a time.

  14. I don’t know it all.

  15. If something isn’t working, CHANGE IT. Don’t sit around & complain that things aren’t panning out. Figure out WHY things aren’t panning out and what you need to do to change that.

  16. Life is less about what happens and more about how you handle what happens.

  17. Nothing in life is guaranteed. Nothing.

  18. Inspiration isn’t a constant stream that’s always readily available. It’s okay to feel uninspired. Acknowledge what’s going on, respect it, and know that it won’t last forever.

I’m looking forward to 2019 because I feel like every year is a fresh start of sorts. After reading how my current life looks nothing like the vision board I put together for myself, someone commented that 2018 is a trial run. And I’ve decided to embrace that frame of mind wholeheartedly lol.

I want to encourage you all to think about the lessons 2018 has taught you and how you’ll use them going forward into the new year. You don’t have to necessarily have 18 like I did here (it just makes for a catchy blog title, honestly), but I do think having a top 3-5 would be a great way to reflect on how your year went overall.

Once you come up with your own list, share ONE (or more if you feel moved) below!
